Collins R390A + Sherwood Engineering SE3

The Collins R390A is one of the best tube receivers ever made.
Mine had been sick for a while, as the BFO circuit had gradually stopped working. I managed to fix it today (in the end it was just a matter of replacing a faulty tube) and I decided to shoot this video of me playing with the radio. There is nothing very exciting about this video; nothing much happens in it. However, if you are into old radios you may actually enjoy this a lot...
I use my R390A in tandem with a Sherwood Engineering SE3 synchronous detector. In practise, the fading present in some AM signals is dramatically reduced, the audio is greatly improved and the device works as a product detector to decode Single Side Band (the bare R390A was not designed to do do that). The passband tuning in the SE3 and the mechanical filters of the R390A are just a terrific combination for DXing.
