Their range was far beyond that of the typical societies of the time. It was made possible by their grassland geography and use of the horse. They provided them mobility. They paired the horse with a bow and arrow and created forces that could rival any army in the pre-modern world. Their life as nomads contributed to both the Mongols and Comanche developing brutal warrior cultures where cruelty and raiding were the norms.
