The Respiratory System

The system of the body we are most acutely aware of is the respiratory system. We have to breathe, whether voluntarily or involuntarily, every few seconds in order to stay alive. Because we looked at the circulatory system, we know that this is because we have to get oxygen to every nook and cranny of the body. But how does oxygen enter the bloodstream in the first place?
