In this plumbing series tutorial I show you how to replace a bad or insufficient valve inside your house with a new one. In this case, the old valve was used to control the outside sprinklers.
The old setup did not allow for properly blowing out the lawn sprinkler irrigation system all the way to the inside of the house. Since there was no way to get the water out by back blowing it to a drain inside the house, the old pipe installation failed (the pipe burst) years ago just outside the house wall.
To correct the installation we could have simply added a full size spigot between the inside wall and the old shutoff We chose to replace the old shutoff valve with a new full port valve, instead.
Before you attempt to do this, please, please, please, do not forget to shut off your water main and (if you have it) the sprinkler shutoff valve outside.
