There’s something just satisfying about a metal credit card. I’m not sure it’s the clink you get when you drop it on the table or the feeling in your hand of metal or just the higher rewards you generally get on metal credit cards. That last statement is getting watered down though with more and more cards being made out of metal. The Apple Card almost starting the trend since the base card only gives you 1% case back.
Previously metal credit cards were for ones with high annual fees like the Chase Sapphire Cards or the Amex Platinum/Gold card. I don’t think the green card has it. Then the Citi prestige is a metal card. It wasn’t until recently that no annual fee cards started to get metal. The Apple Card is a big one that people think of for a well done metal credit card. The amazon prime rewards credit card and the US Bank altitude Go card are also metal with no annual fee.
The worst metal cards you could possibly get I actually talked about in a previous video, but we have any of those Mastercard luxury cards. They have a $495 or a $995 annual fee for pretty much no benefits. Okay you get some benefits, but there is no way you are going to get enough value out of the card to make it worth it. Sure if you want to pay $1000 for a 24k gold card then you can go ahead and do it, or if you wanted to use a service like Lion Credit Card to manufacture a card for you out of metal for cheaper that would be cool too. It would cost you around $250 for the card to be gold and they just put your chip in the card. It does sound sketchy, but you can always cancel your credit card if you think they are a scam. Another kind of bad card is the Verizon card because you only get rewards back in Verizon dollars. If you can use those dollars then this card is actually rather good at earning cash back. 4% on grocery stores with no annual fee is nice.
Let’s get into the best metal cards out there. First of all, I think we all know the Chase Sapphire Reserve, Amex Platinum and the Citi Prestige are all great cards, but they have high annual fees. What if you wanted a card that was metal, but you didn’t want to pay such high fees? Again, you could turn your Chase Freedom Unlimited into a metal card with Lion Credit Card, but let’s say you just wanted it right away. We have cards like the Wells Fargo Propel earning 3x at restaurants, gas stations and travel or the Amazon Prime rewards card for 5% at amazon and whole foods. The US bank go is a new one that’s metal earning 4x at restaurants and 2x on well just a ton of other stuff. That card also has a $15 annual streaming credit which is really unheard of for a no annual fee card.
