How genuine do you think someone's "repentance" would be if they came to you and apologized for stealing 50 dollars from your wallet but told you they were going to keep the money because they really needed it?
Biblical teaching is clear: Divorce and subsequent remarriage while the former spouse is yet alive is adultery. 1 Corinthians 6:9 tells us that no ADULTERER will enter heaven. Furthermore, repenting means forsaking and turning from your sin (Proverbs 28:13). If someone took $50 from your purse and "repented" to you, would you expect them to keep the money or give it back to you? How then can someone "repent" of an adulterous second or third marriage and continue having the "benefits" of this sinful union? To repent means to completely forsake the sin.
