1981 IRA Great Escape from Crumlin rd Gaol Belfast | The Troubles Documentary

Eight of the IRA's most dangerous men escaped from Belfasts Crumlin rd Gaol by overpowering two guards, stealing their uniforms and fleeing under cover of a hail of bullets fired by waiting accomplices.
Britain's embarrassed Northern Ireland Office admitted only that the eight prisoners armed with three pistols escaped from the Crumlin Road jail near downtown Belfast, described as one of the best maximum security prisons in Europe.
