कुतुबुद्दीन ऐबक का जन्म मध्य एशिया के तुर्क जनजाति ऐबक में हुआ था।
जब वह एक छोटा बच्चा था, उसे दसरे कबीलो वालो ने कैदी कर लिया और गुलाम के रूप में बेच दिया।
उससे निशापुर (ईरान) के एक काजी ने खरीद लिया और उन्हें इस्लामी कानून, घुड़सवारी और तलवारबाजी की शिक्षा दी गई।
कुछ वर्षों में बूढ़े काजी की मृत्यु हो गई और उसके पुत्रों ने ऐबक को सुलतान मुहम्मद गोरी को बेच दिया।
