Alberta has launched a verification
Alberta has launched a verification app to check proof of COVID-19 vaccination with a QR code.
Premier Jason Kenney announced the launch on Tuesday during the province’s regularly scheduled COVID-19 update.
The AB Covid Records Verifier app is available on Apple and Android devices through the relevant app stores.
According to the government, “the QR code contains a secure digital signature that verifies it’s provided by Alberta Health Services and it is extremely hard to forge.”
The app will show a green checkmark if the scanned QR code is valid. It will also display the person’s name and date of birth. Businesses are asked to verify the information with another source of identification.
The government says the app does not store any personal information and does not require an internet connection to operate once downloaded.
According to Alberta Health Minister Jason Copping, as of Nov. 15, “all proof of vaccination will be done with the security and convenience of the QR code.”
Other forms of proof of vaccination will continue to be accepted until Nov. 15, including paper records from vaccine providers or a screenshot, or a printed record from alberta.ca/CovidRecords or MyHealthRecords.
