As of my last knowledge update in January 2022, WhatsApp provides end-to-end encryption for messages, ensuring that only the intended recipients can read them. However, there is no official feature to "lock" individual chats within the WhatsApp application. WhatsApp itself does not provide a built-in mechanism to lock or password-protect specific chats.

If you're referring to the app-level security, where you need to use your fingerprint, face recognition, or a PIN to access the entire WhatsApp application, you can set up this security feature through your device settings. However, keep in mind that this would apply to the entire app, not specific chats.

To Set Up App-Level Security on WhatsApp:

1. *Open WhatsApp:*
  - Open the WhatsApp application on your smartphone.

2. *Access Settings:*
  - Tap on the three dots in the top right corner to open the menu.
  - On iOS, tap on "Settings" in the bottom right corner.

3. *Privacy:*
  - Tap on "Account" and then go to "Privacy."

4. *Screen Lock (Android) or Face ID & Passcode (iOS):*
  - On Android, you'll find an option called "Fingerprint lock" or "Screen lock." Enable it and follow the instructions to set up your preferred security method.

  - On iOS, you can use "Face ID & Passcode" to set up additional security for WhatsApp.

Once you set up the app-level security, you'll need to use your fingerprint, face recognition, or PIN to access the entire WhatsApp application.

If by "locked WhatsApp chat" you mean a chat with a padlock icon next to it, that usually indicates that the chat is secured with end-to-end encryption. This is a security feature to ensure that only you and the recipient can read the messages. It doesn't involve a separate lock mechanism, and the chat remains locked by default.

If there have been changes or new features introduced in WhatsApp since my last update, please refer to the official WhatsApp documentation or help resources for the most current information.
