THE GUESS WHO were a Canadian band who have some truly fascinating stories in the annals of Rock and Roll. Obviously Known best for their Classic Rock mega hit American Woman, they had 14 top 40 hits here in America over the course of thee different names. First they were Chad Allan and the Reflections in 1962, and broke through with the hit Shaking All Over that went to #22..
A few years later they adopted the name The Guess Who in 1965. Their most successful period as a band was from 1968 to 1975. The band was led by the underrated and explosive singer/keyboardist Mr. Burton cummings along with guitarist Randy Bachman who later formed the group Bachman Turner Overdrive with some classic hits of their own. They had five number one singles in their native Canada and two here in the states. Before they blew up radio with American Woman they had a song that paved the way...Their first top 10 hit was the beautiful and disarming ballad, These Eyes which hit #6 in 1969. A song written by Cummings and Bachman. I love these eyes, When you hear the first few seconds, wherever you are, you know exactly what song it is.. IT’s a true classic. It was used in one of the funniest moments of the movie Superbad.. It also been covered a lot...
