Bangladesh's garment industry has significantly improved its working conditions since the Rana Plaza disaster, which claimed the lives of over 1,100 people ten years ago. Today, the industry is safer, and the capacity of the Bangladeshi government to oversee compliance is much stronger.

The ILO is closely working with the government, workers, and employers to advance decent work in the sector. The remediation of RMG factories has been promoted as an investment to ensure that businesses comply with all relevant safety standards. Improvements in safety can lead to greater workplace harmony, resulting in better working conditions for workers and growth for the promising sector.
