Review of the British S6 Respirator which entered service in the mid-1960s and left service in the mid-1980s. The S6 was a very modern mask for when it was first introduced, lightweight, side loading 40mm filter, comfortable and offered a good field of view.
The wide lenses can distort the vision however which can be very weird and slightly nauseating, and the Tissot system into the mask could be a bit better.
However all in all the S6 respirator/Gas Mask was well ahead of it's time and a great mask until the even better S10 replaced it.
As with the S10 many people know the mask as the "SAS gas mask", due to them using it during the famous Iranian embassy siege, however the SAS simply used it because it was the standard issue mask at the time.
