When hardwood pellets aren’t being fed into the firepot, the auger may be jammed. Pellets that get wet expand and can cause the auger to lock up and stop turning.

Follow this simple how to clear a Traeger auger jam tutorial for your Traeger wood pellet grill.

Here’s how to clean out an auger jam:

1. Unplug your grill and empty the hopper.
2. Remove the temperature controller from the hopper with a Phillips head screwdriver. Turn the controller sideways and push it back into the mounting hole of the hopper.
3. Remove the hopper from the grill. Remove the 2 screws on the front and 2 on the back where the hopper attaches to the grill. Set the hopper aside.
4. You may unscrew and remove the entire hopper burner assembly from the grill for easier access.
5. Unscrew the shear pin that holds the auger motor to the shaft, hold the nut with pliers and unscrew the pin with an Allen key.
6. Pull the motor off the auger shaft and set aside.
7. Remove the bushing from the shaft with a Phillips screwdriver.
8. Pull the auger from the shaft by wiggling it side to side. If it has seized, crank the auger out with a wrench, turning counterclockwise.
9. Use a wooden paint stick or handle of a tool to clear the pellets out of the auger shaft or flush the shaft using the auger itself.
10. Scrape the lodged pellets loose. Vacuum all of the pellets, sawdust, and ash from the auger shaft and firepot.

Here’s how to reassemble the auger:
1. Put the auger into the auger shaft and set the bushing with the setscrew.
2. Attach the motor onto the auger using the shear pin.
3. Attach the hopper to the grill and reattach the temperature controller.
4. Refill the hopper with pellets and fire it up.
