Meet the researchers shaping the world

Meet the researchers envisioning how a decarbonised transport sector might be possible in India.

The hustle and bustle on the streets of India highlights the tremendous growth in its transport sector through a fast-growing economy. Unfortunately, this also means India has trebled its carbon emissions from the sector between 2000 and 2020. Combatting this to come up with solutions for a just and inclusive transition to a decarbonised transport sector is no easy feat as the social impact will be felt in both cities and rural areas. Focusing on technological solutions may not be fair or affordable, so how can India ensure that the most vulnerable in society do not suffer?

Researchers from India and the UK worked together to understand the social impact of measures taken by the Indian government towards decarbonisation. The insights from the project will be shared with practitioners and policymakers to help shape policies for a just and fair transition.
