This is intended to be the first of a new Exorcist trilogy, similar to Blumhouse's Halloween 2018-Halloween Ends. Ellen Burstyn is reprising her role as Chris MacNeil, Regan's mother. Plot details describe a father that seeks help from Chris after his son becomes possessed. The official trailer for The: Exorcist Believer has been revealed, and David Gordon Green has explained Chris MacNeil's return.
