Short timelapse movie captured at Bali's Silent Day (25 March 2020), the darkest day of the year. Perfect for capturing those stars and Milky Way!
Nyepi (Silent Day) is commemorated every Isakawarsa (Saka new year) according to the Balinese calendar. The Hindu celebration is a day of silence, fasting and meditation for the Balinese. During this day no one is allowed on the street, everyone has to be very quiet, there's no tv or other entertainment, even for all the tourists. Between 6am and 6am the next morning no lights are allowed, making is a the darkest day of the year. I captured this from the rooftop of my guesthouse in Canggu. between 6am and 3am.
It's a crazy time to be here, or anywhere for that matter. I had planned for months to come here with 2 other travel friends and barely made it in time before the airports in. Kualar Lumpur and Bali closed. Things are very quiet and strange. Due to the Corono virus we're now on a lockdown for a couple of days, which might be extended for a few weeks. Who knows. No idea how I'm gonna get food, cause this wasn't expected and everything is closed.
