2022 Honda Ridgeline Type R Review | Release And Date | Pricing | Specs | Interior & Exterior - The Ridgeline is the only midsize pickup built on a unibody platform, giving it a smoother ride than you'd expect from a truck. And after a 2021 refresh, the truck gains a more rugged exterior to better match its body-on-frame rivals including the Toyota Tacoma, Ford Ranger, and Chevrolet Colorado. If you don't mind a slightly less functional and smaller truck, other unibody pickup options include the compact Ford Maverick and Hyundai Santa Cruz.
For 2022, the Ridgeline receives a new Sonic Gray Pearl paint color.

Admittedly, the Honda Ridgeline isn't for the hardcore truck buyer. If you need serious off-road capability or top-notch towing numbers, look elsewhere. But the unibody truck has other advantages that make it a worthy competitor.
Boasting a fully independent rear suspension at all four corners, the Ridgeline drives and rides much like an SUV. As a result, it suffers less body roll than traditional trucks, and bumps in the road are well absorbed. Feeling planted on the road, it tackles corners with confidence. But as we found out in our midsize truck comparison, in which the Ridgeline earned second place, ride quality declines a bit while hauling.
The model's torque vectoring AWD system puts power exactly where it's needed, helping tackle off-road obstacles. Still, the Ridgeline's crawling potential is limited since it has no real lockable differentials or low-range gear.
Complementing its soft road manners, the Ridgeline has the largest and most comfortable interior in its segment. High-quality materials line the spacious cabin. The seat bottoms fold up and away, helping to increase space beyond what competitors can offer. Adding to the practicality equation, a clever tailgate that can drop down or swing open makes loading and unloading easier. Roomy and maneuverable, the Ridgeline is a great lifestyle truck.
Performance and Fuel Economy

All Honda Ridgelines come with a 3.5-liter V-6 making 280 hp and 262 lb-ft of torque. Power is routed through a nine-speed automatic transmission to all four wheels (a FWD model is no longer offered). The Ridgeline is quick for a midsize truck, hitting 60 mph in 6.3 seconds, if you tap it just right. As we noted in our First Test, there's "a very fine line between a strong launch and a total bog" in this vehicle.
Fuel economy numbers for 2022 should be similar to the 2021 model, which is rated 18/24 mpg city/highway.he 2022 Ridgeline earned a five-star overall safety rating from the NHTSA, a score that includes five stars in the front and side crash tests, and four stars in the rollover test. The IIHS gave the 2021 Ridgeline Good scores in all crash categories except the passenger-side small overlap front test, in which it got an Acceptable rating
