In this episode I provide the history of the XJ version of the Jeep Cherokee, which started as an AMC-Renault joint design and launched in 1984, and would later continue as a Chrysler and DamilerChrysler model.  The Cherokee was a unibody design, making it unlike most any other SUV at the time, and although was very off-road focused, it's design was also well-liked by suburban families who may never drive it off-road, like many SUV's today.  DaimlerChrysler killed it in 2001 for it being too old and out-of-date, despite the square look being one of its more popular features.  Its replacement was the Liberty in North America until the Cherokee name returned for a crossover in 2014.  And the Cherokee Nation is still upset about Chrysler using their tribal name since 1974, and it doesn't look like that will change anytime soon.
