"To Serve Man" is the 24th episode of the third season of the anthology series The Twilight Zone, and the 89th overall. It originally aired on March 2, 1962, on CBS. Based on Damon Knight's 1950 short story of the same title, the episode was written by Rod Serling and directed by Richard L. Bare. It is considered one of the best episodes from the series, particularly for its final twist.

Episode no.
International leaders express wariness of the Kanamits' uninvited arrival on Earth, but start to believe their claims of benevolence upon seeing their advanced technology at work. Patty, a member of Chambers' staff, translates the title of the book as To Serve Man, further bolstering public trust in the Kanamits. One member of the race submits to polygraph-monitored interrogation and is determined to be telling the truth. Humans soon begin volunteering to travel to the Kanamits' home planet, which is described as a paradise, and the Kanamits set up embassies in every major city on Earth and weigh all passengers boarding their ships.

The episode begins with a special session of the United Nations, where three alien emissaries are testifying that the purpose of their mission to Earth is to bring humans "the peace and plenty which we ourselves enjoy, and which we have in the past brought to other races throughout the galaxy." The aliens, known as Kanamits, seem friendly and assure everyone they have nothing to be afraid of.

Michael Chambers, a linguist, is tasked with translating the Kanamits' language. He and his team make progress, but they are unable to decipher the meaning of a book that the Kanamits always carry with them. The book is eventually identified as To Serve Man, but Chambers and his team are unable to translate its title.

Patty, a member of Chambers' staff, discovers that the book is actually a cookbook. She realizes that the Kanamits are not here to help humans, but to harvest them for food. Chambers and his team are horrified by this discovery, but they are unable to warn anyone before the Kanamits begin their harvest.

The episode ends with Chambers being taken aboard a Kanamit spaceship. He is shown to a room where he is to be fattened up for slaughter. As he is being prodded to eat more, Chambers looks out the window and sees the Earth receding into the distance. He realizes that he is doomed, but he also knows that the truth about the Kanamits will eventually be revealed.

"To Serve Man" is a chilling and thought-provoking episode that explores the themes of trust, deception, and the nature of humanity. It is a reminder that not everything is as it seems, and that even those who appear to be benevolent may have ulterior motives.
