Irish Banjo Basics Course Synopsis: This course, taught by Lisa Canny is aimed at the absolute beginner tenor banjo player. It begins with how to hold the instrument and plectrum, how to tune the strings, proper hand and finger posture are all important fundamentals that will be addressed in the early lessons. There is a progressive study of scales, and ornamentation throughout the course. Trebles, triplets and the use of double stops will feature, particularly in the later lessons. The tunes that Lisa teaches are all popular session tunes which include The Kerry Polka, The Lilting Banshee, Out on the Ocean, The Derry Hornpipe, The Rights of Man, and The Humour's of Whiskey. A variety of tune types and keys are taught. ‘Banjo Basics’ will equip the beginner tenor banjo player with all the necessary rudiments needed for their journey down the Irish music road!
