The University of Michigan Gamelan
The University of Michigan Gamelan Ensemble and Javanese dancers perform the dance drama, Sunan Kalijaga, their spring concert, 10 April 2017.
This performance celebrates the Bicentennial of the University of Michigan, as well as the 50th anniversary of the Gamelan Ensemble at Michigan.
This dance drama portrays events from the life of the Islamic saint Sunan Kalijaga, including his spiritual journey and travels while preaching Islam in Java. It was composed, arranged, choreographed, and directed by guest artist and teacher Wahyu Santoso Prabowo, with the assistance of Maharani Luthvinda Dewi.
