On 6th June 1944, some 14,000 Canadian soldiers landed at Juno Beach as part of D-Day, the largest seaborne invasion in history.

The Bény-sur-Mer Canadian War Cemetery is located just a few kilometres inland from Juno Beach and contains the last resting place of over 2000 Canadian soldiers, most of whom were killed in the initial days of the Battle of Normandy.
