In this episode, we explore Vallee De Mai Nature Reserve, located on the Island of Praslin, Seychelles. Vallee De Mai is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, a Primeval Palm Forest, and a relic from the time of the dinosaurs. The forest boasts unique flora and fauna. The star of the forest (some would argue the star of Seychelles as well) is the Coco de Mer palm - famous for its suggestive male inflorescence and double nut. The double nut is the largest and heaviest seed in the world. Other endemic palms at Vallee de Mai include - Cabbage Palm (Palmiste), Stilt Palm, Thief Palm, Latanier Palm, and Latannyen milpat. There are some non-palm species too - like the Pti koko maron, and the Horne’s Pandanus to name a few. The forest is also home to a variety of unique, endemic fauna - like the Seychelles Green day gecko, Seychelles Skink, the Seychelles Bulbul, and of course the rare Seychelles Black Parrot.
