The Apple Vision Pro demo
The Apple Vision Pro demo according to a Quest 3 dude. This is a bit of a first impressions (and perhaps a last impression with that price tag…) I’ve tried lots of VR headsets from the Quests to the PSVR2 to Pico headsets to crappy VR phone holders. This headset’s price isn’t the only thing to be gobsmacked about. The passthrough is astonishing. Almost lifelike in the perfect lighting of the Apple Store but is obviously still a video feed. It blurs when you turn your head, is still a bit grainy, and isn’t as bright as the true world. The hand occlusion is the most astonishing thing for me. To have my actual hands with me in full VR literally made me question reality for a few moments. It goes hand in hand (heh) with quick hand tracking and no warping with the passthrough. The screens were so sharp I could not make out any screen door or pixels at all. It seems as if it’s actually just gone which is very welcome. The lenses were surprisingly cheap looking compared to the rest of the headset. Chromatic aberration and a low Quest-like FOV is quite a surprise at its price tag. The sweet spot is embarrassingly low compared the the Quest 3. I couldn’t get a great look at the colors or dark levels but from what I gathered both areas are pretty amazingly executed. Eye tracking was pretty cool along with the gestures. Your hand has to be in sight of the headset obviously, but when it sees you it’s incredibly intuitive. Impressed. Overall, the headset is a great leap over the quest in almost all areas.
