Silence is golden, as we find out in today's episode.
Last week, we talked about how most of us don't know what we are going to play but we play anyway.
Today's rant is about how many of us fill up all of the available space allotted to us in a solo break with everything we know, nonstop, from beginning to end.
The fix? Lay back. Stop playing for a few beats and listen to the band. Come back in with an idea or a phrase, then lay out again. Do this over and over throughout your solo break and over time, you will engage that level of musicianship that we describe as having a conversation.
Less, is indeed more.
