In this video, I'll show you how to make the classic wooden train whistle. I'll also show you how to transfer a graphic printed from your inkjet printer to the wood. This is a great woodworking craft to make for your kids or grandkids. Or maybe for scouts or a Boy's Club or Girl's Club. This would also be a great wood craft to sell or give away as presents this Christmas. And it just might annoy certain family members, so remember to be kind - LOL

You simply need a 2X4 made of pine and cut it 8.5" long and 1.5" wide on both sides. I don't think the length matters too much. Just needs to be long enough to accommodate the 4 holes of the whistle.

For my wooden train whistle, I stayed pretty close to the free plans published by Steve Ramsey - Woodworking for Mere Mortals. Thank you Steve! You can check those out at the link below:

Transferring the graphic was fairly easy. I used shipping label paper and just peeled off the labels and printed on that glossy side. Use the highest quality settings on your inkjet printer and don't forget to flip any lettering or words. Be careful when applying the paper to the wood and don't shift the paper when pressing down. If you don't succeed the first time, no worries. You can simply sand the image away and start over until you have it right.
