Taiwan is a small island with just over 23 million people, however it comes with countless attractive dishes. Taiwanese cuisine is the successor of Chinese cuisine with the strong influence of Japanese cuisine during the 50 years of ruling this island.
After its failure in the Qing-Japanese War, China signed the Shimonoseki pact, on April 17, 1895, ceding Taiwan and Penghu to Japan. Japan governed Taiwan in 50 years until its fall in the Second World War.
The Japanese were always afraid of Taiwan independence movement, so they tried every means to use Japanese culture spirit as well as ideology with an ambition to assimilate and turn Taiwanese into Japanese. Thanks to this, the Taiwanese partly have progressive thoughts. However, their culture is also affected. You can find the evidence of Japanese influence on the street, in its cuisine and lifestyles. Then, it becomes one of the features that make Taiwanese culture special. The Taiwanese still retain Chinese tradition and they also have Japanese spirit inside.
In this clip, Khoai only briefly shared the transportation guide as well as some brief experience for first-time visitors to Taiwan. There will be a journey to discover Taiwanese cuisine in a very different way during the following days, so please do not mis it.
