The Frightening Economics of the Tesla Megapack

Elon Musk expects Tesla's Energy Storage division to be just as large as autos in the future. While many investors and analysts don't see a path to get here, Tesla is taking steps today by preparing for massive ramp ups in 4680 battery cells in order to accomplish this. While the Powerwall is a high volume product for residential battery backup, it contains just a few battery cells.  The Megapack is truly for scale and utility companies won't be able to get enough of these for years to come. Currently the Megapack is in stealth mode, but at 1 million dollars a unit, it's possible that Megapack contributes to hundreds of billions of dollars in revenue for Tesla by 2030.
