How to Rename an Active Directory Domain Name | Rename Domain Name | Windows Server 2022 / 2019

In this video, I explain how to change the Active Directory Domain Name, meaning that you can change your Domain Name. For your information, when changing the Domain Name, there are several steps that must be taken step by step to avoid any problems occurring to the server or Windows server. The idea of renaming an Active Directory domain is not a good idea, but you may find yourself necessary to change the domain name for many reasons. You can easily rename your AD domain, but after following the steps mentioned in the video, watch the video carefully and I am waiting for any inquiries in the comments.

- Run the rendom /list command to generate a Domainlist.xml file with the current AD forest configuration.
- rendom /showforest  The command will show the changes to be made in the configuration.
- rendom /upload the command will upload Domainlist.xml with the new configuration of AD partitions to the domain controller with the Domain naming master FSMO role.
- rendom /prepare command will check the availability of all DCs in the forest and if they are ready to be renamed
- rendom /execute  The command below will rename the domain
- gpfixup /olddns:xxxx.local /newdns:xxxxx.local   ( command to update GPO bindings )
- gpfixup /oldnb:xxxx /newnb:xxxx ( update the NetBIOS domain name )
- rendom /clean  The command below will remove links to your old domain from AD
- rendom /end  The command Unlock the domain configuration
