Tzena Tzena Tzena (Ross-Jenkins) by Gordon Jenkins & his Orchestra & Chorus and The Weavers

The original 1941 Hebrew composition by Issachar Miron went through various modifications before it took this highly-produced form.  Issued on the flip of the year’s #1 record hit “Goodnight Irene,” “Tzena” reached as high as #2 on the weeikly best-sellers chart. At the same time, the Weavers also recorded and released on Decca their own self-contained Hebrew language performance of “Tzena, Tzena, Tzena.”  Though it was not a hit, it was for some time the only 1950 version available on LP, as the Jenkins recording had been pulled off the market due to copyright disputes.  Both Vic Damone and Mitch Miller (also posted) took versions into the top-10.

THE 1950 HITS ARCHIVE - here in one place, a good-quality library of original-release-version best-sellers and songs that made an impact that were either released or enjoyed a major chunk of their popularity within the calendar year 1950 (some were recorded in 1949). .
