Part of a series of videos on the folklore, symbolism and Mythology of various trees of Britain, Ireland and Northern Europe.

Today I will be looking at the Apple Tree, both the wild Crab Apple and it's cultivated cousin.

The Apple is the 10th letter in the Celtic Tree Alphabet known as Ogham, where it stands for 'Q' or Quert, which is Gaelic for Apple.

I will talk first about the history of the apple tree and its relation with humans and our ancestors, including the making and fermenting of Cider.

Then I will talk about some of the magical associations of the tree, including divination and sympathetic magic, including the Old English Folklore practise of wassailing.

I will tell the story of the Apple Tree Man associated with this practise in South West England where I live - essentially a shamanic ritual to drive away unwanted spirits.

Finally I will talk about the tree's associations in the 'druidic' tree symbology of Ogham; representing Love, Abundance and the Otherworld.
