Parallel play typicall emerges between 18 months - 2 years.
It’s a great way for children to play next to or near others while observing, learning, copying and seeing different ways to play and communicate.
This is great for children who typically like their own space and want to be near the group and watch.
Lots of children learn through watching and observing others.
There’s no need to ‘force’ a particular play style with a child or pressure them to play with others in a particular way.
Play skills develop slowly over time and it’s our role as adults to watch and respond and support each child’s learning style.
