In the midst of the Soviet Invasion of Manchuria, the Japanese Kwantung Army faced fierce engagement with the Soviet wave of troops crossing from the town of Pogranichny, just east of the border. The following day after the Soviet assault, the Japanese army battalion stationed there attempted an early morning counter attack which lasted until the night. The Soviets were caught in confusion, but quickly repelled the attack and resumed with the main invasion task. Film was captured of the event in which the Japanese deployed limited late war weaponry while the Soviets rolled in with T-34s and paratroopers. The fate of the filmmaker is unknown; the film was found in an abandoned house that was once cordoned off by Japanese soldiers.
