In the decade since the last assembly polls in Jammu and Kashmir, the region’s political landscape has undergone a major shift – marked by the abrogation of Article 370, the bifurcation of Ladakh and J&K, extensive lockdown, the house arrest of its heavyweight leaders, and the emergence of a new brand of leadership. How has it impacted the youth?
In this episode of Another Election Show from Srinagar, Manisha Pande and Atul Chaurasia speak to the youth about the winds of change in the politics of the region, media, and the issues of unemployment, land, education, and drug addiction.
A recent journalism graduate says, “Fear is in the air. Fear is everywhere.” He says that amid political instability, economic challenges, and a lack of employment, many youth are succumbing to drug addiction. The youth said there is “no true representation of Kashmir” in the mainstream national media.
