If you're interested in raising pigeons, this is the video for you! In this tutorial, I'll show you how to build a small pigeon loft and in other videos how to care for your pigeons. This is a great way to get started in pigeon racing, or simply get some fresh air and exercise in your backyard!
The birds are new to me and this is my first time building a loft, it is important that you have a good dry loft to be loft flying racing pigeons. The birds need to like their home loft as you want them to continue homing to it. This is a starter loft as it is not very big. This starter loft will comfortably house no more than 32 pigeons. It is said that each pigeon in a loft should have at least one square foot of space. As I am a beginner at pigeon racing and owning homing pigeons a small starter loft is perfect.
I am very new to this and have started racing pigeons in the Niagara Region. I am a member of the Canadian Pigeon Racing Union and all of the birds are tagged with bands that indicate they are mine. To start off in pigeons you first need birds. All of my pigeons were gifted to me from some really good pigeon flyers. Racing pigeon loft flying is important to keep them in shape and give them a little freedom in the sky. It is an anxious moment when you open that loft and letting pigeons out first time.
My good friend mike who is a carpenter came to help me out with this build. The design is fairly simple and the building out of the loft really didn’t take that long. In total it was only about 6 sheets of plywood and a few 2x4’s. You need a good system for the roof to ensure the loft stays dry inside.
