Logical Connectives
The words which change or combine simple statements to form new statements or compound statements are called logical connectives.
1. Conjunction
If two simple statements p and q are connected by the word ‘and’, then the resulting compound statement “p and q” is called a conjunction of p and q and is written in symbolic form as “p  q” (wedge symbol).  
Example:
 p: Newton is a mathematician
 q: Bhanu Bhakta is a poet
The conjunction of p and q is “Newton is a mathematician and Bhanu Bhakta is a poet” and this compound  statement is symbolized by p  q

2. Disjunction
If two simple statements p and q are connected by the word ‘or’, then the resulting compound statement “p or q” is called a disjunction of p and q and is written in symbolic form as “p  q”.
Example:
  p: 1 is a odd number.
  q: 3 is an even number.
The disjunction of p and q is “1 is a odd number or 3 is an even number” and this compound  statement is symbolized by p  q.
