In this video we take a close look at a full plexiglass model, which clearly shows how an Airlift system works in a pond.

A small ball is added to show the flow of water through the system.

Please keep in mind:

- This is just a model to show how this concept works, the cylinder on the left would, in a real world application, always be replaced by a pond or container.

- This model shows no filter, because it is not relevant when just showing the concept. Normally, the filter would be placed next to the pond / Airlift in a gravitational setup. Here, the 'bottom drain' leads straight back to the collector where the water is pumped up again. In a practical application on a pond, of course the bottom drain would connect to the filter and the last filter chamber would connect to the collector. Emptying the last chamber with the Airlift will cause it to gravitationally fill back up again, this is how you get your flow through the filter.

- This system is designed to give maximum flow at the lowest possible power consumption. This means that discharge head is irrelevant. The system will have the best results when the water return flows just beneath the water surface of the pond or container.

- At this time, this system is the most energy efficient way of pumping large amounts of water (through a filter).
