Looking for sand dollars? You've come to the right place! BELOW, we'll explain where to go and how to get there to find as many as you can carry! It is a hidden secret that you are now a part of!!!

In case you don't know, sand dollars are small, seabird-like creatures that live in the sand near the shore. They're an enjoyable and exciting sight, and this video will show you how to find them!

*Remember, don't take the live ones! Typically, alive sand dollars have cilia and velvety skin, typically very dark in color (deep reddish brown, dark brown, almost black, etc.). You'll notice none have that here. They are all nearly all beige or white. It is rare to find sand dollars alive and above ground on Sand Dollar Island!*

Ok, here's what you do to get some of your own shown in this video:

1. Plan to call in sick tomorrow! (or taking a vacation will work too)  :-)
2. Plan a visit to Atlantic Beach/Morehead City/Beaufort in North Carolina (a recommendation for a place to stay if you need one will be posted below.)
3a. Once you have arrived, find Sand Dollar Island!
   A. Learn the secret location (any local can tell you!),
   B. Learn how to navigate sand bars without wrecking your boat,
injuring your family, and being fined (shallow water boats work best!),
   C. Learn the tide schedule well since this island (which is a sand bar actually)
is only visible above water for a few hours each day.

3b. Call my great friends at Island Ferry Adventures Ferry Service
(www.islandferryadventures.com) and make a reservation to visit "Sand Dollar
Island". Please note, I have no financial interest in this recommendation, they are incredibly great
people and it is just the easiest way!).
4. Bring the following with you:
   A. Waterproof backpack & a sealed wallet/phone case,
   B. Bottles of Water (and possibly a snack),
   C. Rain Coat (just in case),
   D. A 5 Gallon Bucket & Lid (they are very fragile. If you try to carry them by hand, they will crumble),
   E. Perhaps, a lightweight plastic garden shovel (optional).
5. Then, just look down! They are everywhere on this island! Watch this video to learn how to find & protect your Sand Dollars!

*Don't forget, while there are not many alive Sand Dollars on this island, if you do happen to find one, return it to the sea!*

My recommendation of where to stay while visiting (a 3 Bedroom, 3 Bath House on the water, with a boat lift in the back, and minutes from the Harkers Island Ferry Service to Cape Lookout Lighthouse):

Airbnb: http://www.BeachcombersBungalow.com

Other MUST SEE places while visiting Sand Dollar Island:

Cape Lookout Lighthouse: https://www.nps.gov/calo/index.htm
The Wild Horses of Shackleford Banks: https://www.nps.gov/calo/learn/nature...

Get to either via Harkers Island Ferry Service, which is 6 to 10 minutes away from the house above, via the national park service ferry system: https://www.islandexpressferryservice...
