Della Ogunleye was born and grew up in Nigeria and now lives in Southfields, south-west London, with her two daughters -- Debbie and Sarah. Della was diagnosed with breast cancer in June 2010, and says she was shocked because she didn't know many black people who had been affected by cancer.  She was supported through her cancer experience by her Macmillan nurse Charmaine. Charmaine encouraged her to attend a support group, but Della found the idea strange as they don't exist in Nigeria, and had trouble finding one for Africans in her local area.

In February 2011, with the help of a Macmillan grant, Della set up her own support group for Africans affected by cancer -- DDS African Cancer Support. She spends at least one day a week working on this, alongside her job as a parish administrator at a church.
