How much does 4 feet (48") of hair weigh? | Lucy's Corsetry

Possibly the start to a "Rapunzel Labs" mini-series, depending on whether people want to see more simple experiments involving hair.

How much does my hair weigh? Today I determine the mass of my 48" of hair, both wet and dry.

Results? When dry, my hair weighs about 225g (1/2 lb) and when wet, my hair weighs about 350g (3/4 lb). Considering the fact that the human head weighs between 3.5 - 5.5 kg (8-12 lbs), this means that my hair only adds about 5% of the total weight of my head - totally manageable for my neck.
