It’s all very well having loads of confidence in the nymph you’ve tied on. But how to you know when a fish has actually eaten it?
With dry fly fishing, it’s easy isn’t it (!!!!). So here’s how it goes. Your imitation drifts downstream, a fish comes up, there’s a splashy rise or a slurp - and it’s on.
Fishing a nymph, you need to understand when there’s been a take, then react to it like lightning. Without the right indication, you can miss hundreds of fish. This is where my ‘Secret’ comes in.
This indicator is really the answer. Simple to tie, reliable and easy to see in lots of different water conditions, if you can present it well, it will increase your catch rate when fishing nymphs beyond perhaps what you thought was possible. You might even find fish in pieces of water you thought were totally devoid of life!
And the added bonus……you don’t need a specialist nymph rod to fish it either. Just use your dry fly set-up - and enjoy the fun.
Materials:
Hook: Size 12 Hanak 130 BL
Tying Thread: 8.0 Olive Textreme
8-10lb breaking strain monofilament
‘Wing’: Orange Closed Cell Foam
Tail: Deer Hair
Body: Olive Ice Dub
