Super hero comics have a reputation for being complicated to the point of being impenetrable for anyone who doesn't know decades of history and lore. A perfect example of this is Green Lantern Kyle Rayner upgrading his powers and becoming Ion. What began as a good story rooted far too heavily in the continuity of the DC Universe soon became a testament to the fact that even the simplest idea can become overcomplicated to the point that it doesn't make much sense anymore.
