On the southern Adriatic coast
On the southern Adriatic coast of Italy is the village of Polignano a Mare Puglia. It is well known for its white-pebble beaches, such as Cala Porto, which is surrounded by a Roman bridge. A cove at the base of a cliff is called the Ponte dei Lapilli. Photography and paintings are on show at the Pino Pascali Museum of Contemporary Art. San Vito Abbey includes a 16th-century tower and a Romanesque church that overlooks the water.
One of Italy's, if not all of Europe's, most stunning coastal towns is Polignano a Mare in Puglia Italy.
The little village of Polignano is located about 25 miles southeast of Bari and is built on top of sizable limestone cliffs that plunge into the Adriatic Sea.
The majority of Polignano a Mare's history is clearly visible today, with many reigning cultures having left their mark on the town's historic center's architecture and aesthetics.
The Via Triana, one of the most significant highways in ancient Rome, runs directly through the town, demonstrating the Roman Empire's impact.
In Polignano a Mare puglia , successive monarchs, including the Spanish in the 16th century, built watchtowers all across the town.
However, we can only witness the history of the last few thousand years now, despite evidence discovered during archaeological digs that suggests humans have been present in the region for at least 8,000 years.
