🎥 Title: Interview Experience during admission at IIM Lucknow for MBA
🔥 This call came as a complete surprise! Within the realm of BLACKI IIMs, receiving a call from ABLC is considered quite challenging. However, against the odds, on the memorable date of 15th Jan 2021, I received an email from IIM Lucknow's admission team regarding an update in my admission status.
🔍 Following this were essay submissions and the subsequent interview, a unique experience due to the circumstances of the COVID-19 pandemic. During this time, the GD round was canceled across all colleges.
🎙 Let's delve into the details of the interview experience. This interview followed my interviews at IIM CAP and IIM Kozhikode, providing me some comfort and a sense of preparedness for whatever might come my way. However, during this interview, I genuinely felt that this was destined to happen. It went smoothly, with no unexpected surprises or intense grilling.
🗣 Based on my firsthand experience, I'll walk you through what you can expect in an IIM Lucknow interview:
👥 Panelists: Typically, there are 2-3 panelists, including 1 or 2 teachers and sometimes even alumni who participate in conducting the interview.
🔸 Part 1: Understanding the Candidate
In this section, expect questions that help the panel understand you better, such as:
Tell me about yourself.
Tell me about your family.
If your father runs a business, why don't you join his business?
What do you do in your free time?
In five to ten years, where do you see yourself?
💡 You'll get an idea of the kind of questions asked initially. I was well-prepared for this section, structuring my entire journey from graduation to my current job in a compelling storyline.
🔸 Part 2: Why MBA?
In this section, the interviewers are keen to understand why you want to pursue an MBA. Be prepared for questions like:
Why MBA?
You already have a great job. Do you think, ROI-wise, an MBA makes sense?
Have you gone through the MBA curriculum? Quote any 5 subjects.
🧪 This section is a test of your commitment to pursuing an MBA. Be sincere and present yourself effectively, even if you're uncertain about some aspects.
🔸 Part 3: Communication and Prior Knowledge Check
This section focused on my work experience, particularly my role at Deutsche Bank and my analysis of financial products, including a discussion on derivatives. It provided an opportunity for the panel to assess my communication skills and prior knowledge.
📚 The interviewers gave me the floor to ask any questions, and I seized the moment by inquiring about the future trajectory of the course. They shared their insights, and we concluded the interview on a positive note.

Be honest - if you don't know something, admit it. Avoid beating around the bush.
