The U.S. Congress, Taiwan, and U.S.-China Strategic Competition

June 29, 2023 - As we approach the 45th anniversary of the Taiwan Relations Act (TRA) from 1979, a panel of experts takes stock of the importance of the Act and the continued relevance of Taiwan in an era of strategic competition with the People’s Republic of China (PRC). Speakers include Ann E. Kowalewski, Professional Staff Member, House Foreign Affairs Committee, Bonnie S. Glaser, Managing Director, German Marshall Fund’s Indo-Pacific Program, Russell Hsiao, Executive Director, Global Taiwan Institute, and Jacques deLisle, Director, Center for the Study of Contemporary China, University of Pennsylvania. The panel is moderated by Lyle J. Morris, Senior Fellow, Center for China Analysis. Opening remarks are by Bates Gill, Executive Director, Center for China Analysis.
