UK SPOUSE VISA 2021 | 5 MISTAKES TO AVOID When Applying for UK Spouse Visa!

DISCLAIMER: This information is based on my experience and will not guarantee you a UK Spouse visa. I am not a solicitor or visa advisor. I am just a person who went through the UK Spouse Visa process and is sharing the information I gathered through my experience for those who need more information for their own application.

1. SPELLING, NUMBERS AND DATE ERRORS. A simple one is to make sure you double check your application for errors around spelling, numbers and dates. Many people have approached me saying they submitted the form with the wrong tax codes, wrong dates for travel, misspelled names … this might not seem like a big deal however if you get a meticulous visa officer investigating your application, something as silly as a spelling error could end up with a rejection. So make sure you DOUBLE, TRIPLE, QUADRUPLE CHECK.

2. NOT PROOFREADING YOUR APPLICATION. If you’re paying a lawyer to help you with your submission, DO NOT depend on them to double-check your document. They are there to merely help you SUBMIT your application. They’re not there to proofread anything. That’s YOUR responsibility. YOU need to check these things, not your lawyer.

3. NOT INCLUDING EVIDENCE OF RELATIONSHIP. One of the most important pieces of evidence that you should show is that you and your partner have met FACE-TO-FACE, meaning you have seen each other physically! If you’re planning on applying for a spouse visa, document all the time you’ve met your partner. Take photos, keep receipts, keep tickets, take photos with each other’s friends and families. This evidence will make your application very strong.

4. NOT TRANSLATING YOUR DOCUMENTS TO ENGLISH.

If you’re from a country that issues documents in your home country’s language, please get it translated before you submit your documents from your application. This is mandatory.

5. NOT INCLUDING IMPORTANT AND SPECIFIC DETAILS IN YOUR COVER LETTER. If there are important and specific details about your application and your situation, like for example:

- Your British spouse changed their jobs within the year

- Your savings are coming from specific sources like an inheritance

- You live with your parents or live in a property that’s owned by your parents or a friend

- Your spouse recently received a promotion so their pay has increased within the year

INCLUDE these details in your cover letter. The cover letter allows you to EXPLAIN your current situation and allows you to provide as much detail as possible about your relationship with your spouse. The more details you can provide based on what documents you need to submit, the more solid your application will be.
