The Prophet's Mosque was the first monument to be connected to electric power in the Arabian Peninsula, and that was in 1909, according to what was mentioned in Sultan Ghaleb Al-Quaiti's book "The Holy Cities, Hajj and the Islamic World."

The Prophet Muhammad established the mosque in the first year of the Hijra. The Prophet's Mosque was the second mosque to be built in Medina - which was known as Bethrib before the Hijra. It was preceded by the Kaba Mosque, according to Saif Al-Rahman Al-Mubarak foury in his book, Al-Raheeq Al-Sakhtum.

The mosque, which contains "the kindergarten from the Riad of paradise," according to what is described in many Islamic writings, is now located inside the Prophet's Mosque, which has spanned dozens of centuries and expanded beyond the borders of the old city.

According to the Islamic tradition, a prayer in the Prophet’s Mosque is better than a thousand prayers held in any other mosque, except for the Grand Mosque.

The mosque, in its present condition, after centuries of expansion, contains the tomb of the Prophet Muhammad and the graves of the two caliphs Abu Bakr al-Siddiq and Umar ibn al-Khattab, as well as the homes of the Prophet's wives, in addition to the Rawda.

It was mentioned in Sahih al-Bukhari on the authority of Abu Huraira as saying that the Prophet Muhammad said, “ What is between my house and my pulpit is a garden from the gardens of paradise .”

The mosque was built in 632 AD, next to the residence of the Prophet Muhammad - that is, 1441 years ago - but it has undergone many renovations and expansions since then. The largest of these renovations was carried out by Saudi King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz, and it is still ongoing today.

It is believed that if the current expansions are completed, the mosque - which attracts millions of visitors annually - can accommodate about 1.8 million worshipers at a time.
