On January 14th, my buddy and I did a winter climb up 14er, Mount Antero of the Sawatch range in Colorado. We did the West Slopes route from Baldwin Gulch which ended up being just over 16 miles and over 5,200' of gain. Mt. Antero tops out at 14,269' and is the tenth highest peak in Colorado. This 14er proved to be a tough one, taking almost 9 hours to reach the summit.

Winter hiking in Colorado can be very dangerous and it's important to do your research ahead of time and come prepared. The Sawatch is one of my favorite ranges to spend time in during the winter and reaching the summit of Mount Antero was very rewarding. This route is approximately 16 miles with 5,200' of elevation gain and begins from the Baldwin Gulch Trailhead.
