Dr. Sweera Prakash, the first Hindu woman to contest the 2024 general elections for a general seat in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, said that she is contesting the election on the platform of the Pakistan Peoples Party. She is receiving support from the party, as well as from other people. Her father was also involved in politics, which is also helping her. She is also receiving support due to her knowledge of Pashto, and the people of the area have given her the title of "daughter of Buner." This is a matter of pride for her.

In an interview with the Indian television channel "Aaj Tak" News, Dr. Sweera Prakash said that she is proud to be a Pakistani and that she wants to represent her region and country. She said that the minority community can still contact her whenever they want, and that she will fully represent the minorities if she is elected to the Parliament House. She also said that there is hope for progress in Pak-India relations.

She said that she does not agree with the view that minorities are discriminated against in Pakistan. She said that no one has ever made her feel like she is a member of a minority. The white color in the flag of our country represents minorities, and we also have the freedom to practice any religion and express our opinion under the constitution and law.

Who is Sweera Prakash?

For the first time in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, a Hindu woman from a minority community has decided to contest the elections on a general seat. Dr. Sweera Prakash is from the area of Dagar in the remote district of Buner in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. This is the same area from which the chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, Barrister Gohar Khan, also hails.

Dr. Sweera Prakash graduated from Abbottabad International Medical College in 2022. She is also the general secretary of the women's wing of the Pakistan Peoples Party in Buner. Her father, Dr. Om Prakash, has been associated with the Pakistan Peoples Party for many years.

Dr. Sweera Prakash is a doctor by profession. Her family has been involved in politics associated with the Pakistan Peoples Party for 3 decades. However, this is the first time that a candidate from a minority community has contested the election from a general seat. According to the list released by the RO office, the female candidate has submitted her nomination papers for the general seat from PK 25 Buner. Sweera Prakash is the only woman and minority candidate. According to the PPP, the leadership will soon make a final decision on the candidates, while Sweera Prakash's name is also included in the list of reserved seats.
